A newly resurfaced clip from 1993 shows the then-senator, Joe Biden, referring to the female members of a Confederacy group to be “fine people” during a senate hearing. The video was from the hearing for the controversial Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was just a Supreme Court nominee back then. Biden, who was the then-Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, made a surprising comment about members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). The group protects Confederate monuments, including monuments of Confederate officers who were also members of the Ku Klux Klan.

“I, too, heard that speech and, for the public listening to this, the senator made a very moving and eloquent speech. As a son of the Confederacy, acknowledging that it was time to change and yield to a position that Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun raised on the Senate floor, not granting a federal charter to an organization made up of many fine people who continue to display the Confederate flag as a symbol,” Biden said. He was referring to a speech made by Sen. Howell Heflin, who wanted to deny the renewal of a design patent of the Confederate flag to the UDC.

There is no outrage over how Biden has called those who are openly supporting racists, but when President Trump said that there were “very fine people on both sides,” during the 2017 protests that became deadly in Charlottesville, Virginia, the President was slammed by the leftist media. This blatant one-sidedness has been the mark of how the mainstream media has treated Joe Biden’s candidacy. He has made statements that can be classified as problematic, to say the least, and yet they have given him a free pass.

Perhaps the most blatant way that the media has turned a blind eye away from Biden’s faults is when they ignored the sexual assault accusations against him by a former assistant. Tara Reade has a credible sexual assault accusation against the former vice president, and yet they have largely ignored her story or actively accused her of lying. According to Reade, she was working as a staff assistant in Biden’s office when he sexually assaulted her. That took place around the same time that he has been caught on video saying that members of the UDC were fine people.
