Democrats Booed for “Cultural Appropriation”, Use of African Fabric Backfires
In an attempt to show solidarity with the growing Black Lives Matter movement, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other Democrats knelt down for nearly nine-minutes of silence over the death of African-Americans who were victims of police brutality. To further cement their support, the left-wing politicians also donned a traditional African fabric called Kente.
While the Democrats proudly showed off the beautiful fabric, the plan backfired as social media pundits scoffed and booed Pelosi and the rest of her team over “cultural appropriation.”
During the event, the House Speaker was joined in by her fellow Democrat lawmakers including Sens. Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Chuck Schumer (D-NY). For a good eight minutes, and 46 seconds, the Democrats tried to show unity, and condoned police brutality over the deaths of George Gloyd, Michael Brown, and Trayvon Martin. Add in their Kente scarves, which also carried deep and meaningful origins, from West Africa. However, the move missed its mark.
In a Twitter tirade, pro-life activist Obianuju Ekeocha retorted that “There is more Kente fabric in this picture than at a Ghanaian traditional wedding.” She also humorously remarked that the African-American shop where they have ordered the fabric was probably sold out to meet their demands, adding that “#CulturalAppropriation at its worst.”
However, Ekeocha continued to lash out against the members of the Democratic party. She blasted off how the fabric held true Ghanaian identity, and how it represented ancient African tribes.
I’m sure🤔someone told them that fabric represents black people but in truth a Nigerian like me cannot lay claim to this significant fabric which is very much a part of Ghanaian identity.

Dear democrats, these colors & patterns belong to ancient tribes and mean something to us. pic.twitter.com/nuB1RPBtQA
A former Warren supporter and author, Frederick Joseph, also responded to the incident. “Folks really think Black people are a joke,” Joseph remarked. He continued that he was unable to understand how wearing Kente clothing was meant to honor George Floyd.

Another African-American politician, Errol Webber, condemned the fabric’s use. Webber, who is also running for congress believed that Democrats have completely no regard for Black votes, and are desperately trying to win the sympathy of the black community to win in the upcoming 2020 general elections.
The Democrats have no interest in black America.

These fools think that because they put some Kente cloth on they’re going to get the black vote?
I’m waiting on Biden to put a durag on and start saying the “N” word.
A former Sanders Press Secretary, Briahna Joy Gray, also demanded that instead of donning Kente fabric, Democrats should focus more on the bigger issues such as coronavirus, racism, and economic inequality.
As Congressmembers ice their knees and put away their kente cloth graduation stolls, I hope they consider supporting a monthly stimulus check. https://t.co/u1WAhukMdY pic.twitter.com/s4WwgCQ3wk

After kneeling down, the House Speaker was unable to get up. Pelosi toppled over and had to ask for her aide to help get her back on her feet. “It’s better not to have on high heels,” Pelosi laughed.
