Singer Bruce Springsteen joins the call to make changes to the way that the United States enforces its laws in the wake of the George Floyd protests. Springsteen is just the latest celebrity to come out in support of the protests which have resulted in rioting, looting, and even death. He is also joining the call for changes to policing in the country, with some of the more extreme voices calling for the complete defunding and abolishment of the police.

The old singer shared his thoughts on his satellite radio show. He said that, “We need systemic changes in our law enforcement departments and the political will of our national citizenry to once again move forward the kind of changes that will bring the ideals of the civil rights movement once again to life and into this moment.”

He also criticized President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. He said that the 100,000 American deaths has only drawn the most tepid response from the president. However, that number is actually on the low-end of the estimates of the possible casualties that the country might suffer and that the government has done what it can to prevent additional deaths even while local government officials have tried to make things political.

Springsteen added that black citizens are being killed. Like other celebrities he is justifying the rioting and the looting that is happening all over the country, saying that it is needed to effect change in the country. In the meantime, retired St. Louis police captain, David Dorn, who was black, was killed when he tried to guard his friend’s place of business from rioters. A black federal officer was also killed while performing his duty in California. The protesters are not addressing those deaths because they are the ones who caused them. The rioters are also targeting the businesses owned by blacks in many cities across the country. Abolishing the police would only make things worse for ordinary people who will be at the mercy of criminal elements.
