In one of the more bizarre op-eds that have been published by the supposedly reputable Washington Times, came a demand to Hollywood TV and movie producers to stop making films and TV shows about cops. The piece that was written by Alyssa Rosenberg, stated that “for a century, Hollywood has been collaborating with police departments, telling stories that whitewash police shootings and valorizing an action-hero style of policing.”

She makes the ridiculous claim that Hollywood is really conservative and is only disguising itself for some reason as liberal. She offers no evidence of her claim which goes against obvious signs that show the liberalism of the movie and TV industry. Producers might have a hard time complying with the order of the Washington Times writer, since people love to watch TV shows and movies about cops and those are some of the most highly-rated shows.

This is just a part of the overall drive against police officers all over the country. With protests, rioting, and looting happening in different cities across the United States, there is also an effort to demonize the police. Because of the death of George Floyd, activists are now using that to call for abolishing the police with some saying that it is time to reimagine law enforcement. They are saying that the police should not be able to use force when enforcing the law. For example, the Minnesota city council is proposing to disband the city’s entire police force.

This call to defund or even to abolish the police can lead to a dangerous situation where there would be no enforcers of the law who can stand up to violent criminals. Ordinary law-abiding citizens would be the ones to suffer from the moves that are being advocated by the people who want to punish all police officers for the actions of four individuals.

The call to ban all movies and TV shows about the police is not going to be the last attack on the police by the mainstream media.
