Former vice president Joe Biden finally became the Democratic presidential nominee after he was able to get enough delegates. This comes after his electoral victory in Guam which effectively gives him more than the required 1,991 delegates required to make him the official nominee of the party. He has long been the presumptive nominee but the number of his delegates was still below the required numbers.

Biden sent out a statement after his nomination, “A little more than three months ago I stood on stage in South Carolina and told the American people that ours was a campaign for everyone who has been knocked down, counted out, and left behind. Those words take on an ever greater resonance today, at a time when so many Americans are hurting and have suffered so much loss.”

Biden’s nomination has set the stage for a face-off with President Donald Trump on the November ballots. The election will be held in what is arguably one of the most troubled years in the history of the United States since World War Two. The global coronavirus pandemic has caused more than a hundred thousand deaths in America and has led to economic collapse and record unemployment. Then comes the rioting and the looting happening in multiple American cities in the wake of the death of George Floyd in the hands of police officers. All the problems faced by the country have caused further divide between the right and the left.

Not everyone on the side of the Democrats is happy with Biden’s nomination. There are those who believe that he is the worst possible candidate that they can field against Trump. Some believe that he is suffering from the early stages of dementia and that he is unfit to run for the presidency, let alone be the president.

Those on the right are excited to see him debate Trump knowing that he would have a hard time dealing with the tactics of the president. Biden has also committed countless gaffes in the campaign trail. There were times when he got into confrontations with voters when he didn’t like what they had to say. His first virtual town hall was also a disaster when he walked away from the camera apparently unaware of how an online meeting worked.

Another problem with Biden is that he is facing sexual assault allegations, which is very credible. Overall, Biden seems like he’s a problematic candidate.
