On Sunday, US President Donald Trump designated Antifa, an anti-fascist group as a “terrorist organization,” as speculations rose that the group might be the ones behind the violent riots that erupted across different states.

In a social media post, the President declared that “The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.” Trump did not provide additional details on the issue. The move came after several admin officials claimed that Antifa might have been the ones responsible for wreaking havoc and burning down cities over the protests on African-American, George Floyd’s death.

In a media appearance for CNN’s “State of the Union,” National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien believed that the violent riots and store lootings were “driven” by the anti-fascist organization. “And they did it in Seattle. They have done it in Portland. They have done it in Berkeley. This is a destructive force of radicals.” O’Brien added, “I don’t even know if we want to call them leftists. Whatever they are, they’re—they’re militants who are coming in and burning our cities, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it.” The National Security Advisor repeated his claims on ABC’s “This Week.” O’Brien reaffirmed his belief that the “radical militants” have traveled at night, across state lines, and have used military-style tactics to burn down numerous buildings. He added that they have specifically targeted vulnerable sectors of the cities.

He continued by saying that the radical militants have specifically targeted local businesses that were owned by minorities. He explained that these businesses were already “at-risk” of being closed down due to the economic crisis .O’Brien also went on to claim that the President has been “outraged” by the ongoing violence. “That has to stop,” the security adviser said.

He also called out the intelligence community to investigate Antifa. O’Brien stressed out that he does not want to confuse rioters with peaceful protesters. Later that day, the security adviser also told reporters that the Attorney General had been in contact with the FBI director, to coordinate and launch an investigation about the group’s whereabouts. However, left-wing supporters defended the anti-fascist organization. In fact, social media pundits have used the hashtag #IamAntifa. One Twitter user wrote that they would continue to break down “fascism as they did in World War II. Another remarked that those who had fought on the WWII w should be considered as a member of Antifa

While another user boasted video footage of San Juan Church being burned down.

A social media user even posted a photo of a soldier waving the communist flag.

Most alarmingly, someone had even shared a photo of Trump with the Nazi insignia.
