From Twitter CEOs to Hollywood stars, it seemed that the social media platform had become an assault weapon to attack President Donald Trump. In fact, comedian, and vocal Trump critic, Kathy Griffin, expressed her desire to do just that.

In a Twitter post, the comedian claimed that she wanted Trump to be physically assaulted, with a “syringe with nothing but air inside,” adding that it would do the trick. “F**K TRUMP.” The assault is potentially lethal, especially since it creates an “embolism” or the blockage of blood vessels.

The comedian proudly verified her comments from an article in the Washington Examiner, which claimed that Griffin encouraged “someone to stab [Trump] with a syringe full of air.” She responded to the tweet, saying, “I SURE DID, FUCKER.”

Griffin’s violent tweets came as a response when the President remarked in a White House event that he does not use insulin, a drug for diabetes. While Griffin might be enjoying the perks of free speech, physical threats against the US President constitutes a Federal offense and can take up to five years in prison. Moreover, it also violates the social media platform’s terms of service and can lead to permanent account removal.

On Tuesday, Twitter refused to comment on Griffin’s threats or its possible repercussions. As the social media giant clearly wrote on their site that “you may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people. We also prohibit the glorification of violence.” The site explained that tweets which convey the intention of “killing” or “inflicting” physical harm on an individual or group are prohibited.

However, the next day, Twitter had already removed Griffin’s post. The comedian had made a notorious reputation of spreading anti-administration sentiments. Last month, Griffin lambasted Trump, as well as presidential daughter, Ivanka, with a short quote, “Get a load of these two a**holes.” During the press briefing, Trump claimed that the US leads in terms of coronavirus testing.

On March 26, the comedian was reportedly rushed to the hospital due to COVID-19 infection. From there, Griffin made accusations against the administration in terms of the availability of tests, claiming that she was unable to get one due to restrictions from the CDC.

In May of 2017, Griffin faced an enormous backlash after she posted an offensive photo of her holding Trump’s bloody head. The controversial photo had caused damage to the comedian’s career after CNN fired her from the network’s annual New Year’s Eve broadcast.
