While the news of Hollywood celebrities pinning coronavirus fatalities on President Donald Trump might be nothing new, Tinseltown boasted another new aging celebrity to their list. The “Tender Mercies” star, Ellen Barkin, joined in with fellow celebrities, such as Cher, Rob Reiner, and Bette Midler, by comparing Trump to Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

On Wednesday, Barkin claimed that the president “will go down in history as the “Stalin of incompetence and greed.” She added that the administration had seen more deaths than “Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.”

Barkin’s statements might be in reference to the Vietnam war, which had extended to three administrations, starting with John F. Kennedy, to Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon. According to the Conflict Extract Data File of the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), there had been a recorded 58,220 fatalities as a result of the war.

On the other hand, coronavirus fatalities are now at 47,795 deaths, with more than 850,000 confirmed cases. While the figures might come close, the truth is, no president had ever faced a pandemic with such magnitude. In fact, the United Nations claimed that the coronavirus “is the greatest test” since the Second World War, an event that took nearly 300,000 American soldiers.

Even Stalin, whom Barkin referred to, has allegedly killed more than 20 million people. However, social media pundits continued to support Barkin’s statements. One user thought that her reference to Stalin was hilarious.

Another remarked that Trump is “Stalin without brains.”

While someone accused the United States president of being a “murderer.”

One even likened Trump to despotic Roman emperor Nero, who sat down and watched his entire city burn.

While another disagreed, saying that Trump is more like Mussolini.

Someone also shared a badly edited article that blames Trump for being “the leading cause of death” in the country.

This is not the first time that Barkin had openly criticized the Trump administration. Last year, Barkin referred to the US president as a “rapist-in-chief,” claiming that Trump had attacked 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg.

She had also insulted GOP supporters, describing them as “dumb.” In a Twitter tirade, the actress began by asking Trump supporters if they still wanted to be led by a “dumb president.” Barkin added that she already thought that they were dumb, and paraphrased the question if they wanted a president who is “dumber” than they already are.
