While the country continues to battle the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, both left-wing media and Democratic politicians have come together to criticize President Donald Trump’s handling of the ongoing health and economic crisis.

One such critic is Sen. Chris Murphy, who had accused Trump of the same old Democratic rhetoric: that the president is either a murderer or the one responsible for the thousands of deaths resulting from the COVID-19 virus. In his Twitter post, the Connecticut senator reacted to Trump’s heated exchange with CNN correspondent Jeremy Diamond during a White House press briefing.

The senator wrote that despite the exchange going largely unnoticed, he believed that Trump’s statements on the stay at home order were a clear sign that the president does not “understand” science. The senator added that Trump’s decisions could cost many lives. “His ignorance is a potential death sentence for thousands,” Murphy stated.

The senator’s tweet came as a response to PBS White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor. The journalist wrote about the controversial exchange on Trump’s decision to implement a nationwide stay at home order, citing that he would not interfere with the governor’s decisions unless there is a “massive breakout.”

The exchange happened on Saturday during Trump’s daily White House press briefing. In the event, Diamond asked if Trump thinks that states such as South Carolina, which had 1,700 cases, and Utah with 1,255 should issue a stay at home order.

The president simply responded that he does not think so, and believes that these states were doing a “great job.” Trump explained that the numbers of confirmed cases were relatively small as compared to the state’s population. Diamond butted in saying that states which had a smaller population had already issued a stay at home order and asked why bigger states would refuse to do so.

Trump replied that he would intervene if he sees that there is a massive breakout. However, Diamond was having none of it and questioned the president, “Isn’t the key in this pandemic getting ahead of those numbers, though?”

Trump reassured that he knows the current situation in these states. The president then added that 92% of the patients had already been covered.

The Connecticut senator was one of the staunch critics against Trump’s coronavirus efforts. In an interview with left-wing media outlet MSNBC, Murphy claimed that the pandemic “feels like Ukraine all over again.” He lamented that Trump had been withholding foreign aid and critical medical supplies as leverage for those who had criticized him and his administration.

Back in February, Murphy had claimed that the president had a “get out of jail free card,” after being acquitted from his impeachment trial. The senator blamed the GOP for giving Trump the power to do “anything.” In fact, Murphy claimed that the Republicans had helped him to get away with corruption without facing any major consequences.

Murphy even claimed that the president had destroyed his political rivals in hopes of silencing those who had opposed him. However, it seems that the Democrats still have not accepted the reality of their defeat. To point this out, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was still trying to get even by delaying Trump’s $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package and establishing a House Select Committee on the coronavirus to oversee government spending.
