Firebrand Democrat, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, said in a Livestream on Wednesday that President Donald Trump’s negligence and incompetence in handling the coronavirus pandemic have resulted in the “unnecessary deaths.”

During the Q&A session on social media, someone asked whether the country would have less COVID-19 related fatalities if Trump had acted earlier. AOC agreed, citing that Trump’s failure to follow scientists’ advice has resulted in what should have been avoidable deaths.

Just like other Democrats, the lawmaker pinned the blame on the administration, saying that he did not take the threat seriously. She explained that if only Republicans had listened more to expert advice, and had cared more about saving lives than making a profit, then more Americans would have been saved.

AOC added that the country should have issued a lockdown much sooner, and had produced and prepared the ventilators as well as other necessary medical equipment beforehand. The lawmaker continued to say that had the president invoked the Defense Production Act during the initial onset of the virus, the country would not have been “scrambling.” She added that “everything that is happening is happening late. And every decision that we make late means that people are dying unnecessarily.”

Despite such accusations, the president had already ordered a travel ban on China as far back as January, when the initial reports of coronavirus hit the US. At that time, Trump claimed that it was a “big” decision as both countries had recently entered a trade deal. To add even more burden, Democrats have mocked the president’s decision to issue a ban on China as “racist.”

During the Q&A, AOC also said that a lot of people had been avoiding Chinese restaurants and that Chinese-Americans have been experiencing a lot of racism.

Then, she brought back the issue of Trump’s failed response by saying that people have died not because of the virus, but because of “incompetence and “poor decision making.” AOC concluded that the president was “conveying an epic level of negligence and incompetence that is costing human lives.”

However, this was not the first time that AOC had slammed the GOP over their coronavirus response. The lawmaker viciously attacked the administration’s $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill, which had been passed this week.

In her statement, AOC believed that the $2 trillion was not enough to provide aid for Americans who had been affected by the virus. Even when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to push and stuff the bill with non-related agendas, such as allocations for the post-office and Planned Parenthood, AOC clamored that families need more.

She even demanded financial aid for migrant families. Finally, AOC said that congress had to reconvene to push for more agendas, and described the bill as “shameful” for serving as a corporate bailout.
