Former Vice President Joe Biden promised Nancy Pelosi that he would keep her as House Speaker if he wins the presidential election this year. Biden made the pledge during a speech which he gave on Tuesday night as the results for the Super Tuesday were rolling in.

“We want a nominee who will beat Donald Trump but also keep Nancy Pelosi the Speaker of the House,” Biden said. That speech was not the first time that he promised Pelosi can keep her post if he wins the presidency. He had made the same pledge earlier when he tweeted the following:

If you want a Democratic nominee who can:

– Beat Donald Trump
– Keep Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and hold the House
– Take the US Senate and state legislatures

Then this is your campaign.

The promise didn’t sit well with the followers of his closest rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) who rebuked Biden for supporting an establishment Democrat like Pelosi. It seems that the progressive section of the democratic party is up in arms as to what may seem like a consolidation of power against Sanders.

The moderate wing of the party itself is still divided with Biden, Warren, and Bloomberg still competing. However, Biden has a clear advantage now, after he was endorsed by former rivals Klobuchar, Buttigieg, and O’Rourke. The race for the Democratic nomination is now largely seen as a contest between Biden and Sanders.

The former Vice President seems to be confident enough about his campaign to be making promises as to who will be rewarded when he sits in the White House. Pelosi is not the only one that he has promised a reward. Biden has also pledged that Robert “Beto” O’Rourke will be playing a role in his administration should he win. The skateboarding O’Rourke whose campaign flopped early was tapped by Biden to lead his administration’s anti-gun policies since he is a rabid anti-gun advocate.

Analysts believe that positions for other endorsers will soon be announced too but the former Vice President might be making promises a bit too early since the results of Super Tuesday are still not decisive.

While Biden won in states like Virginia, North Carolina, Minnesota, Massachusetts Tennessee, and Alabama, the Sanders campaign was able to win the biggest prize of the day, California. Sanders might be able to win the nomination, but that is not going to sit well with the likes of Pelosi.

Pelosi who has led the House of Representatives on the pointless witch-hunt to find something that they can accuse President Trump with so they can impeach him has always been a supporter of Biden. Last month when Bidens’ campaign seems to be in freefall, Pelosi said that she wasn’t counting Joe Biden out. It seems natural that Biden would be making a promise to keep Pelosi who is sure to run the House in support of a Biden presidency and make things smoother for him.
