The 89-year-old actor and former mayor of Carmel-By-The-Sea, California, Clint Eastwood expressed his support for billionaire Michael Bloomberg. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the actor weighed in on the upcoming 2020 elections, saying, “The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there.”

A self-proclaimed “libertarian, ”Eastwood believes that he has “respect for other people’s ideas and is willing to learn constantly.” The actor had also recognized the good that the President has done saying that Trump has done “certain things” which he supported. However, Eastwood said that he would like the president to act “in a more genteel way, without tweeting and calling people names.” The actor then added, “I would personally like for him to not bring himself to that level.”

However, Eastwood’s statements are in stark contrast to his previous comments. In fact, in a 2017 interview with Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan, the actor praised the president for his unapologetic and no-nonsense remarks. The “Dirty Harry” star event went off to claim that we are living in a “pussy generation.”

Eastwood said, “[Trump’s] onto something because secretly, everybody’s getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”

The actor then concluded that “A lot of people thought it was politically incorrect.” He added, “That was at the beginning of the era that we’re in now, where everybody thinks everyone’s politically correct. We’re killing ourselves by doing that. We’ve lost our sense of humor.”

In another interview with Esquire Magazine, Eastwood was asked which presidential candidate he would support during the 2016 elections. The actor, who was an outspoken Obama critic said: “That’s a tough one, isn’t it? I’d have to go for Trump…you know, ‘cause she’s declared that she’s gonna follow in Obama’s footsteps. There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She’s made a lot of dough out of being a politician.”

The actor had also faced a major backlash in 2012 when he gave his infamous “empty chair” speech at the Republican National Convention. During his speech, Eastwood had a mock interview with President Obama which was represented by the empty chair. “What do you want me to tell Romney?” Eastwood asked the chair. “I can’t tell him to do that to himself…you’re getting as bad as [former vice president Joe] Biden…of course we all know Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party. Kind of a grin with a body behind it…” he added. The actor continued, “Mr, President, how do you handle promises that you have made when you were running for election, and how do you handle them? I mean, what do you say to people?”

Of course, there was no answer from the empty chair.
