Disney’s upcoming Pixar film, “Onward” will feature its first openly lesbian character voiced by actress and screenwriter Lena Waithe.

The character, a Cyclops Cop named Officer Specter, has one scene in the middle of the main character’s quest.

Stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt are the voices for the two main characters, Ian and Barely.

The brothers are on a quest when they meet Officer Spector as they head to magical mountains. Officer Spector and her partner Officer Gore pull over a driver who says he got distracted because his girlfriend’s sons were acting up. Officer Spector relates to the driver by saying, “My girlfriend’s daughter got me pulling my hair out.”

Film director Dan Scanlon explained, “It’s a modern fantasy world and we want to represent the modern world.”

“Onward” will be in theatres on March 6.

When the “Finding Dory” trailer came out in 2016, there was speculation about the scene where a lesbian couple appeared to push a stroller through the aquarium, but it was never confirmed.

In “Toy Story 4,” a scene showed two women dropping off a little girl at kindergarten class.

Disney is set to introduce a same-sex couple into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “The Eternals,” later this year.
