In a massive display of partisanship, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rips Trump’s speech in front of millions of Americans during the president’s state of the union address.

The incident happened right after President Donald Trump delivered his SOTU address. However, instead of showing unity in a time of growing political tension, Speaker Pelosi went on to steal Trump’s iconic moment by ripping a copy of his speech right behind the president’s back.

It was customary that Pelosi will have a copy of the president’s remarks before he began his speech. Before Trump’s speech, Pelosi reached out to give the president’s a handshake, however, Trump refused to acknowledge it. In a fit of rage, as Trump delivered his empowering speech, Pelosi was seen shaking her head. Then, before Trump could even step down the podium—Pelosi ripped her copy in half.

Pelosi then issued a Twitter post in reference to the handshake snub, and to encourage even more political division, “Democrats will never stop extending the hand of friendship to get the job done #ForThePeople. We will work to find common ground where we can, but will stand our ground where we cannot. #SOTU”

Despite the President’s achievements, Pelosi still refused to recognize the good things that Trump’s administration had done. “We had been told the President would have a positive message on health care. However, President Trump’s address tonight gave no comfort to the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions or the families struggling to afford the prescription drugs they need,” Pelosi said in a statement.

Pelosi then added that Trump’s speech was a manifesto of mistruths. “The manifesto of mistruths presented in page after page of the address tonight should be a call to action for everyone who expects truth from the President and policies worthy of his office and the American people,” Pelosi said after she had left the Capitol.

Pelosi then added that she tore the speech “because it was the courteous thing to do, considering the alternative.”

The White House was also quick to respond to Pelosi’s actions. In their official statement, it said “Speaker Pelosi just ripped up: One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen. The survival of a child born at 21 weeks. The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller. A service member’s reunion with his family. That’s her legacy.”

Pelosi’s action was also slammed on social media.

For Steve Scalise, a Republican vote-counter in Louisiana tweeted “This speech was about American heroes and American workers. She decided THAT was worth literally tearing apart.”

Dan Scavino, White House social media director also condemned the speaker’s action. “Nancy Pelosi destroyed a historical record tonight at #SOTU. The speech she ripped up was a one-of-a-kind record, signed by POTUS and full of stories of Bravery, Heroism and Patriotism. It belonged to the AMERICAN PEOPLE, not to her. What a disgusting display of raw partisanship!”

Brit Hume, a Fox News senior political analyst also agreed “Pretty clear the extent to which Trump has frustrated Pelosi. She thinks he’s an evil buffoon yet here he is, in better shape politically than at any time since his inauguration.”

Finally, Daily Wire Editor at Large Josh Hammer wrote: “Trump talks about record-low unemployment and killing the two most infamous terrorists on the face of the earth. Pelosi physically tears up the speech. The Democratic Party is not in a good place right now.”
