After a controversial segment on Saturday evening, CNN host Don Lemon tried to defend his behavior after insulting and mocking Trump supporters as people who cannot even read and write.

Lemon’s statement is as follows: “This is personally important for me to address this, OK? Ask anyone who knows me, they’ll tell you- I don’t believe in belittling people, belittling anyone for who they are, what they believe, or where they’re from. During an interview on Saturday night, one of my guests said something that made me laugh. And while in the moment, I found that joke humorous. And I didn’t catch everything that was said.”

To save himself, the left-winged supporter said: “Just to make it perfectly clear, I was laughing at the joke and not at any group of people.”

Lemon did not state what he was referring to. However, the clip shows that Lemon laughed when his co-panel Republican Rick Wilson said “He knows that this is, you know, an administration defined by ignorance of the world. And so that’s partly him playing to the base and playing to their audience. You know, the credulous boomer rube demo that backs Donald Trump.”

Lemon continued to laugh as the republican mocked Trump supporters in a heavy southern accent, as he implied that they cannot read or write. “Donald Trump’s the smart one—and y’all elitists are dumb! Your math and your reading! All those lines on the map!”

In which Lemon snickered “That was a good one. I needed that.”

The liberal media outlet seemed to be racking profits from Lemon’s biased stint. In fact, during the 10 PM hour on Saturday, in which the incident took place, CNN only had 713,000 viewers. By Tuesday, the clip went viral with 11 million views on Twitter.

However, despite Lemon’s apology, what comes on the internet remains on the internet, and people are not quick to forget. For NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck, Lemon constantly held a long-standing prejudice against Trump supporters. In his tweets, Houck created a timeline proving his point as he shared a clip in January 2018.

“Admitting that for all their talk about making America great, the President is playing to a base that welcomes his racism and will enjoy it. That is disgraceful.” “And for all of you who have uttered that tired, lazy, uninformed, uneducated, ignorant response of calling out me and others who call out racist behaviors, racist? You know what you can go do? I can’t say that.” Lemon said.

In August 2018, Lemon also said “We’re up against people who will lie, steal, and cheat, lie to their mother, lie to themselves about what’s right of this country, about truth and facts. If they will ignore any misgiving, any terrible misdeed, any awful saying they will just ignore it for their own political purpose. They will ignore the bigotry and the pettiness and the childishness about what Donald Trump said about me and LeBron James and others just because they want to gain some sort of political clout or they want a few more dollars in tax money. At what cost?”

President Trump also retaliates from the mockery saying that “Don Lemon is the dumbest man on television!”
