In an interview with CNBC, the media asked Trump if he was open to the idea of creating changes for entitlement programs such as Medicare, in which the president admits that he was. Unfortunately, the Democrats tried to spin his statements as a desperate attempt to appeal for votes.

“At some point, they will be,” Trump said during his visit to Switzerland for the Wolrd Economic Forum. Trump explained that the growing economy would allow the administration to create changes for the entitlement program.

“At the right time, we will take a look at that,” Trump said. “You know, that’s actually the easiest of all things,” the president added.

However, Democrats were quick enough to pounce on the opportunity and accuse him of breaking the campaign pledge.

Bernie Sanders responded in a desperate attempt to appeal for the votes. “Over and over, Donald Trump promised Americans that he would not cut Social Security and Medicare. He lied,” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “When we win, we’re not going to just protect Social Security and Medicare, we’re going to expand them.”

Joe Biden also chimed in “My administration will not cut Social Security or Medicare benefits. Period. We’ll expand them. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is saying he would consider sacrificing seniors’ benefits to protect tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and big companies. We have to defeat him in November.”

Pete Buttigieg, added, “to fund tax breaks for giant corporations and the wealthiest among us.”

To explain the issue, Democrats are referring to the promise that Trump had made early on his presidential campaign. The president vowed that unlike any other Republican, he would not make any budget cuts on any entitlement programs.

The problem is that none of these accusations are true. In fact, Trump implied that he was considering to make the changes. The Washington Post who had run the story admitted that the news agency failed to understand Trump’s statements.

The story reads: “At the right time, we will take a look at that. You know, that’s actually the easiest of all things, if you look,” Trump said. He later added when asked about entitlements: “Well, we’re going—we’re going to look. We also have assets that we’ve never had. I mean we’ve never had growth like this.”

In fact, Breitbart News said that the budget cuts “would actually be beneficial for the American people.”

Based on the statistics, records show that in 1950, the ratio for Social Security beneficiaries is 16 out of 100, which means that 5.1 workers have to support each beneficiary. In 2017, the ratio grew to 35 out of 100 employees. This means that 2.8 workers for each beneficiary.

By 2050, the expected growth will be 46 out of 100 employees, in which 2.2 workers will be for each beneficiary. Breitbart News pointed out that with the aging population, the budget cut would ensure that the workforce can produce enough goods and services to the entire population.

Without these, the prices will increase as it will result in a shortage. By not having access to quality goods and services, this will eventually decrease the quality of life for every American. Trump sees to resolve the growing age dependency ratios by cutting regulations, providing tax cuts, and boosting the business and investment sector.

Breitbart News also suggested to adopt family-friendly policies to maintain a young age ratio that would help in maintaining a good workforce.

As White House spokesman Judd Deere defended Trump’s statement saying that “With no benefit cuts, President Trump is keeping his commitment to the most vulnerable Americans, especially those who depend on Medicare and Social Security.” Deer added that “His budgets have proposed more savings to mandatory programs than any president in history, including lowering drug costs, eliminating waste, fraud and abuse and getting people off welfare and back to work.”
