Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) believes people her age are stressed about having children because of climate change.

Earlier this month, a TMZ reporter asked the 30-year-old congresswoman what she thought about the wildfires in Australia.

“Oh, I mean, it’s horrifying and I think it shows just how bad things can get once you have our environment that gets dry enough to a point, hot enough to a point, fires that even — that would have started even as a ‘typical’ wildfire season fire, now starts to kind of add on to all of these compounding effects,” she replied.

The reporter mentioned Greta Thunberg and other young people taking a lead, and asked what the young people are getting that the old people aren’t.

“Even people my age are stressed and have anxiety about having kids just because we want to make sure that we’re bringing out kids into a healthy world, into a stable future. And you shouldn’t ever have to be anxious about that,” replied AOC.

“I’m going to live in a world that is fundamentally altered by climate change. So is Greta, so is every young person,” said AOC.

“But especially if you are under 50 years old, if you’re under 40, 30, you know, 20, the younger you are, the more of our lives and our futures are going to be impacted by this. And you know, even people my age are stressed and have anxiety about having kids just because we want to make sure that we’re bringing our kids into a healthy world, into a stable future. And you shouldn’t ever have to be anxious about that. We need to be advocating for a safe future for all of us.”

When asked about Trump, she replied, “He needs to stand up to the fossil fuel corporations and the fossil fuel industry. He needs to stand up to big oil, to big gas, but I think he’s in their pocket.”

A year ago, AOC stated the world would end in 12 years, but in May, she said Republicans shouldn’t take her statements literally.
