Great Thunberg, 16, became the youngest person ever to win TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year Award. The teenaged climate change activist gained notoriety this year by going on a school strike, sailing across the ocean to reduce her carbon footprint, admonishing the UN for not doing enough for climate change, and starring down President Trump.

Her biggest moment of the year was taking to the stage at the United Nations to scold World leaders about climate change. During that speech she famously said, “My message is that we’ll be watching you. This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. Yet I am one of the lucky ones. People are suffering.”

After her time in North America, Thunberg hitched a sailboat ride back across the ocean and is currently continuing her mission to fight climate change in Europe. She has appeared recently at events and protests in Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

Thunberg beat out four other finalist for the 2019 edition of the annual award. Thes finalists included President Donald Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, The Hong Kong Protesters, and “The Whistleblower”.
