In the most ironic answer in a Democratic Presidential Debate filled with them came from Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA). While answering a question about white Democratic candidates pandering to black voters the former California prosecutor adopted a brand new Southern accent for some unexplained reason.

In her answer the sinking candidate drawled that candidates have been taking for granted “the backbone of the Democratic Party … they show up when it’s, you know, close to election time and show up in a black church and want to get the vote.”

Harris joins a distinguished list of Democrats who have been shown changing their accent to speak to black voters. Hillary Clinton has been famous for this tactic throughout her political career and Alexandria “AOC” Ocasio-Cortez also recently pulled out this trick while specking beside Rev. Al Sharpton
