AOC Unsurprisingly Backs Protesters Over Police
In a move that surprises no one, left wing congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) threw her support behind the anti-police Brooklyn protesters over the cops. In a tweet Saturday she said, “Arresting people who can’t afford a $2.75 fare makes no one safer and destabilizes our community.”
Ending mass incarceration means challenging a system that jails the poor to free the rich.

Arresting people who can’t afford a $2.75 fare makes no one safer and destabilizes our community.
New Yorkers know that, they’re not having it, and they’re standing up for each other. https://t.co/asvidIe5zV
This is a pretty big assumption from representative for Queens and the Bronx and one that directly challenges New York’s Mayor and Governor along with the police. There is no evidence to support the fact that most people who turnstile jump “can’t afford a $2.75 fare”.
Most people believe that the majority of turnstile jumpers are just taking advantage of the system because there is little to no supervision in most subway station. An increased police presence will simply be a deterrent that will actually make the city more money than it costs and will not lead to “mass incarceration” as AOC is implying.
The anti-police protesters AOC is backing vandalized city property, jumped turnstiles, and carried signs that called for violence on police officers. Many caried Antifa signs and wearing Black Lives Matter t-shirts. The signs included ones that said, “Ante Up: Punch That Cop”, “Don’t let these pigs touch us”, “F#!k the police”, and “Our subways need more $ for elevators, not for cops.” Protesters also put graffiti on a city bus writing, “NYPD KKK” and “F#!k NYPD”.
