Washington Nationals Pitcher Refuses White House Visit Because his Wife’s Parents are Lesbians
As is the tradition, President Trump has invited the World Series winning Washington Nationals to the White House for a celebratory dinner. This has been a hallmark of presidents and championship winning teams for ages. The fact that the baseball champion this year is the White House’s hometown team makes it even that more special. As of now, there will only be one Nationals player not in attendance, relief pitcher Sean Doolittle.
Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle has declined to attend a White House ceremony for the team. He's the first player to publicly confirm that.

The reason he gave for bailing on his teammates is that he does not like President Trump. Two reasons he gave for not going is that his wife’s parents are lesbians and his brother has autism and he believes, the President mistreats the LGBTQ and disabled community.
“I have a brother-in-law who has autism, and is a guy that mocked a disabled reporter. How would I explain that to him that I hung out with somebody who mocked the way that he talked, or the way that he moves his hands? I can’t get past that stuff,” the pitcher explained. He also referenced supporting his LGBTQ in-laws and his general disagreement with President Trump’s policies.
He summed up his decision saying “At the end of the day, as much as I wanted to be there with my teammates and share that experience with my teammates, I can’t do it. I just can’t do it.”
