Mattis Might be an “Overrated General” but he is an Underrated Comedian
As part of her grandstanding, impromptu press conference after storming out of an important meeting with President Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi gleefully reported on a number of things the President allegedly said in the private meeting. One of the things that Democrats accused President Trump of saying in the meeting was that his former Secretary of Defense, General James Mattis, was “the world’s most overrated General”.

On Thursday evening at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in New York City, Mattis took to the podium and joked about the comment. He said, “I’m honored to be considered that by Donald Trump because he also called Meryl Streep an overrated actress. So, I guess I’m the Meryl Streep of generals, and frankly that sounds pretty good to me.”
He also took what the mainstream media are calling “shots” at President Trump. When you watch the video though, they seem much more like good-natured ribbing at his former boss. The room certainly thought they were funny jokes as tey erupted in laughter after each one.
Mattis said of the President, ““I earned my spurs on the battlefield … and Donald Trump earned his spurs in a letter from a doctor.” He also had a good one-liner about “the only person in the military that Mr. Trump doesn’t think is overrated is… Colonel Sanders.”
Was it playful ribbing from Mattis or throwing shade? Watch the video and decide:
