Beto O’Rourke Plans to Legalize Marijuana Everywhere, Let People Out of Jail, and Give Money to Marijuana Offenders
Democratic Presidential hopeful, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke has unveiled his Legalization of Marijuana plan. Under his plan, marijuana would become legal everywhere in the United States. He does not stop there however.
Our plan starts with: Legalizing marijuana, providing clemency for those currently serving time, and expunging the records of everyone who has been convicted for possession in the past. But we don’t stop there.

Under the Beto Plan, people who are currently in jail for crimes involving the drug would receive shortened sentences or be released outright. Also, if you have already served time for a marijuana offense, your record will be wiped clean. The plan goes even beyond that though.
We will also invest in the communities that have long been most impacted by the War on Drugs—providing a “Drug War Justice Grant” to everyone who was formerly incarcerated for a nonviolent marijuana offense, funded entirely by a tax on the marijuana industry.

The plan calls for financial aid to be given to people and communities who have been affected by jail time for marijuana-related crimes. O’Rourke wants to take the tax dollars generated by a legal marijuana industry and give them to these affected people and neighborhoods in the form of “Drug War Justice Grants”.
Let’s ensure those most impacted by the drug war benefit from the economic opportunities surrounding marijuana—by making sure they receive a majority of the licenses and waiving licensing fees for low-income people who have been convicted of marijuana offenses.
