Macy’s Bans Portion Control Plates After Twitter User Says They “Hurt People”
Macy’s has willingly removed a line of portion control dinner plates from all Macy’s store locations. It didn’t happen until Alie Ward, a CBS correspondent and comedian, went to Twitter to share her feelings. The portion control dinner plates didn’t settle well with her and made her very upset. Ward tweeted an image of the plates and asked: “How can I get these plates from @Macys banned in all 50 states.”

The plates, which were meant to be lighthearted and humorous, are labeled with “skinny jeans,” “favorite jeans,” and “mom jeans” with rings to represent serving sizes. The Pourtions brand also sells plates that are labeled with “manicotti” and “man overboard.”
Ward wanted Macy’s to “know that what they carry and display matters, it can hurt people, and they’re accountable for it.”
Ward wasn’t the only one who was angered by the plates. Actress Jameela Jamil tweeted in response to Ward, “Fck these plates. Fck these plates to hell @Macys.”

Macy’s responded: “Hi, Ali we appreciate you sharing this with us and agree that we missed the mark on this product. It will be removed from all STORY at Macy’s locations.”

Most people would be beyond pleased with Macy’s positive response, but not Ward. She didn’t want to call it quits so fast. Ward demanded more: “I appreciate that; thanks for hearing and taking the feedback. Sidenote: if the surplus stock winds up in TJ Maxxs and Marshalls and Ross stores across America I’m gunna lose it again.”
