AOC used Assassination Attempts at NYC to Restrict the 2nd Amendment
Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took NYC’s assassination attempts to use it as a classic example to lobby for gun control.
It all started when columnist, David Webb called out AOC after she had remained silent on the recent assassination attempts.
The democrat took on to Twitter to respond, blaming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
“This is not my district, but our thoughts are with all officers & people impacted by this shooting & the epidemic of gun violence in this country. Perhaps you would get less mixed up if McConnell stood up to the NRA & passed common-sense gun safety measures to reduce shootings,” AOC wrote.

Perhaps you would get less mixed up if McConnell stood up to the NRA & passed common-sense gun safety measures to reduce shootings.
The congresswoman implied that if it would have been for better gun control, the incident could have been avoided. However, what AOC failed to mention was that the gunman already had a long list of violent offenses that will prohibit him from carrying a firearm.
The representative had long been a staunch advocate of anti-gun laws. There were even speculations that the AOC said that “owning guns is NOT a right… If it were a right, it would be in the Constitution.”
Even Super Bowl Champion Burgess Owen mocked the congresswoman. “Maybe this isn’t the perfect timing to remind us how clueless you are when it comes to gun laws. Maybe you’re not aware of how strict NY gun laws are, or maybe you’re just trying your best to capitalize on a tragedy and use it for talking points. Disgusting.”

Kash Jackson also pointed out that “Another thing that is a joke is that you act like @senatemajldr is to blame here when we all know that the “epidemic of gun violence” is taking place in major cities like New York, Baltimore & Chicago where they already have “Common sense gun legislation”.

The gunman was arrested after he had twice attempted to ambush police officers, with less than 12 hours apart from each attack.
The first attempt happened before 8:30 PM on Saturday, when the gunman, 45-year-old Brian Willilams, walked up to two police officers Brian Hanlon and Paul Stroffolino. Williams asked for directions and suddenly fired the shots. The bullet grazed Stroffolino and narrowly missed an artery.
The two officers escaped without firing a single shot.
The officers immediately coordinated a manhunt and released a photo of the suspect.
The second attempt happened as Williams walked into the police station which was at that time, conducting his manhunt. Williams went into a desk and suddenly pulled a gun. A wounded officer tried to fire back but missed. However, other officers rushed into the room in time to arrest the gunman.
Williams was then charged with attempted murder, criminal weapon possession, and resisting arrest. His grandmother, Mary Williams explained that Brian had been depressed after his only son died. Mrs. Williams said “He was depressed at times because his son got shot in the street. That was his only child.” Commissioner Dermot Shea dismissed the idea and said that Williams already had a long list of criminal history. His offenses include shooting and carjacking in which he shot a police officer in 2002. He was paroled in 2017 after he was convicted for attempted murder.
The recent assassination attempts had sparked outrage from police officers. For Commissioner Shea, the blame should not be on the lack of gun control. Rather, he pointed out that the simmering anti-police protests are the catalyst for such violent acts.
“These things are not unrelated. We had people marching through the streets of New York City recently. Words matter. And words affect people’s behavior,” Shea said, as he dismissed AOC’s allegations.
Kash Jackson also wrote about the matter “The fact of the matter is that you align yourself with Anti-Police protesters who don’t want to pay subway fares. You contributed to creating this hostile environment police face in New York and now you want to pretend that this is only about an “epidemic of gun violence?”
Even Mayor Bill de Blasio also issued a statement that blamed protesters rather than gun control: “Anyone who spews hatred at our officers is aiding and abetting this kind of atmosphere; it is not acceptable. You could protest for whatever you believe in, but you cannot vilely attack those who are here to protect us. It creates this kind of dynamic,” de Blasio said.
Fortunately, no one had died from the shootings, and all injured officers were expected to recover.
