North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un attended a military meeting that was aimed at finding ways to bolster the nuclear capabilities of the reclusive state in the middle of the stalled talks for denuclearisation with the United States. The KCNA state media reported the meeting on Sunday, which marked one of the few instances that the dictator has made a public appearance since the global pandemic has started.

He made the appearance during the meeting of the powerful Workers’ Party’s powerful Central Military Commission. The announcement regarding the renewed efforts in building a nuclear arsenal can be taken as another warning sign from the secretive country that they are going to start doing their weapons testing if there is no new development soon.

The negotiations that have been initiated by President Donald Trump to finally put a stop to the nuclear ambition of North Korea has seen little progress since last year. The United States government has become too busy in dealing with the effects of the pandemic within its border. Among the things discussed in the meeting were the new policies that are aimed at increasing the nuclear war deterrence of the armed forces.

Kim has been keeping a low profile as the pandemic spreads around the world. There was a great deal of speculation to his whereabouts and condition after he failed to show up for several weeks and after missing the birthday celebration of his grandfather. The celebration was considered to be one of the most important holidays in the country. Some mainstream media outlets claimed that he’s dead but that was disproven by President Trump.

Hopefully, the United States can initiate the talks again so the long-standing issues with North Korea can be resolved.
