Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attacked the United States, saying that figures in Washington have been infected with a “political virus,” which is causing them to attack China constantly. He warned that the actions of the United States against China could lead to a Cold War status between the two nations.

He made the statement during China’s annual parliament session that usually lasts for a week. “It has come to our attention that some political forces in the US are taking China-US relations hostage and pushing our two countries to the brink of a new Cold War,” Wang said. He also offered a gesture of peace by saying that China would be open in finding a real source of the coronavirus, although it remains to be seen how serious the offer is.

This latest attack by China comes in the middle of the intensifying international call for an investigation of the actual source of the virus. More and more countries are joining in on the call for an independent investigation into the actual source of the coronavirus. China has branded such calls as attacks against its sovereignty.

More than 5 million people have been infected by the virus globally and it has killed more than 340,000. The United States has suffered the worst being the country with the most number of infected persons and the one with the highest death count as well. It is natural for President Donald Trump to demand answers as to how the pandemic started and where the virus came from.

Unfortunately, China has refused to share vital information and has even suppressed news about the spread of the virus in the city of Wuhan during the early days of the epidemic. They have also refused to cooperate with international experts to check on what’s going on in the city. There is evidence that the Chinese Communist Party tried to downplay the severity of the epidemic within its cities while ordering its operatives abroad to buy up all the PPEs, masks, and other medical supplies that they can get their hands on and have those shipped back to China.

It seems that the World Health Organization (WHO) also served as a mouthpiece for Chinese propaganda, prompting President Trump to suspend the US’s funding. Now, China is trying to stifle any call for an investigation into its actions regarding the coronavirus.
