President Trump has denied rumors that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is dead or even seriously ill. The President has slammed CNN for spreading “fake news” adding that the network may have used old documents for the report.

Earlier in the week, CNN reported that Kim Jong-un is in grave danger after undergoing surgery and that the US government is closely monitoring the situation in the communist country. The source of the network was an unidentified American official who is supposed to have direct knowledge of the situation. Experts have already been wondering about the condition of the North Korean dictator after he failed to show up for his grandfather’s birthday on April 15. The date is one of the most important holidays in the country, which made Kim Jong-un’s absence during the celebrations even more conspicuous. The last time that the dictator was seen publicly was during a government meeting a few days before his grandfather’s birthday.

However, there were no other media outlets that confirmed the claims made by CNN. South Korea had to issue denials that Kim Jong-un is gravely ill. Various diplomats have also said that the report made by CNN was just speculation and that there was no real evidence to suggest they were true.

It is still not clear as to why Kim Jong-un has not made an appearance. The North Korean state media, which has always been quick to deny any criticism leveled at their leader, has been uncharacteristically silent as to the whereabouts and the condition of Kim Jong-un. There has been no report of him making inspections which are usually the highlight of North Korean news.

Trump said that the report made by CNN was incorrect and they might have used old documents. He did not reveal if he was able to speak directly with officials in Pyongyang, but he seems confident when dismissing the claims by CNN as fake news. President Trump said that he wishes the North Korean leader well and added, “’we have a good relationship with North Korea, as good as you can have.”

President Trump made history when he became the first American President to meet with a leader of North Korea. Although the progress of the negotiations with the communist regime has bogged down, Trump has done more in bringing peace to the Korean peninsula than any other president before him.
