Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg’s told a crowd on the campaing trail, “Nobody is experiencing the pain of living under this presidency more than black Americans and other Americans of color, which is why we absolutely must come together and defeat this president in November.”

Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, responded to Buttigieg’s comment, during an interview on Fox News by saying the African-American community is experiencing many gains under Trump’s presidency; wages have increased, religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and families being reunited because of President Trump’s First Step Act.

Trump reported that the First Step Act is a way to help those who, “legislation reformed sentencing laws that have wrongly and disproportionately harmed the African- American community. The First Step Act give nonviolent offenders the chance to reenter society as productive, law-abiding citizens. Now, states across the country are following out lead. America is a nation that believes in redemption.”

King also confirmed the unprecedented unemployment rate for African Americans. The unemployment rate for black Americans was reported at 8.7% in January 2016 and hit a record low at 6% in January 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“Trump has not only made promises, he has kept those promises, just across the gamut,” said King.

“When something is winning for you, keep the victory going,” King added.
