Former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who was a key witness in the impeachment inquiry into President Trump, got a book deal.

Publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt stated in a press release Yovanovitch’s memoir will follow her long career from Mogadishu, Somalia, to Kyiv and concludes in Washington, D.C. where “she found a political system beset by many of the same challenges she had spent her career combating overseas.”

How much the former ambassador is getting paid for the book was not disclosed, but some people familiar with the deal told Associated Press the contract was worth seven figures. Yovanovitch’s book is expected to be released in September 2021.

Javelin literary agency represented Yovanovitch, along with former FBI Director James Coney, and former National Security Adviser John Bolton.

Canadian-born Yovanovitch served in many of State Department positions, including Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. She was appointed ambassador to Ukraine in May 2016 by then President Barack Obama, and served until she retired at the end of January 2020.

Earlier this month, Yovanovitch received the Trainor Award for excellence in diplomacy by Georgetown University. She told the audience, “Right now, the State Department is in trouble. Senior leaders lack policy vision, moral clarity and leadership skills. The policy process has been replaced by decisions emanating from the top, with little discussion. Vacancies at all levels go unfilled, and officers are increasingly wondering whether it’s safe to express concerns about policy, even behind closed doors.”

Stephanie Grisham, the White House Press Secretary, told the Daily Caller, Yovanovitch’s book deal is “Yet another example of a civil servant trying to personally profit off the President. Let’s not forget this is a woman the media painted as a victim, and the democrats hailed as a hero who was motivated solely by patriotism. Not even a month later and she has a book deal? It’s self-serving, and I venture to say her motives will not be questioned by anyone in the mainstream media.”
