President Trump spoke about the First Step Act during his State of the Union speech earlier this month, and Tuesday he used it to help free a man.

“This legislation reformed sentencing laws that have wrongly and disproportionately harmed the African-American community. The First Step Act gives nonviolent offenders the chance to reenter society as productive, law-abiding citizens. Now, states across the country are following our lead. America is a nation that believes in redemption,” said Trump.

Clinton Stewart, who had already served seven years in prison for failure to pay corporate bills, walked out of prison a free man.

Obama was asked by a federal judge to grant clemency to Stewart, but he refused.

Stewart’s daughter and supporters were there to greet Stewart as he was being released on Tuesday. They all held signs which read, “Trump First Step Act.”

After Steward hugged his family, he began to chant “Trump! Trump! Trump!” and then thanked him Trump in the video.

Stewart said a statement, “I was released early because of the First Step Act. I’m so thankful to @realDonaldTrump. The Washington Post said only Obama could save us, but we now have a President in Trump who did more than pay lip service to criminal justice reform.”
