A video of Pope Francis slapping a woman’s hand during a trip to Chile in 2018 is making its rounds on social media. This time the woman appears to be a nun.

Twitter user Bree A Dail posted the video to Twitter and wrote, “A new video has emerged of @Pontifex rebuffing a religious sister while visiting Chile in 2018. Is this pattern of easy accessibility causing Pope Francis discomfort and frustration? Is it a safety concern?”

Last week, a video of Pope Francis slapping a woman’s hand circulated on social media. The pope was greeting people who were lined up at St. Peter’s Square on New Year’s Eve, when a woman yanked his hand and pulled him towards her. The pope slapped her hand a few times and yelled at her before angrily walking away.

Just hours after slapping the woman’s hand, Pope Francis spoke about violence against women. The pope told worshippers at St. Peter’s Basicilia, “Women are sources of life. Yet they are continually insulted, beaten, raped, forced to prostitute themselves and to suppress the life they bear in the womb.”

“Every form of violence inflicted upon a woman is a blasphemy against God, who was born of a woman,” he said.

Before beginning his New Year’s Day message, the Pontiff apologized for slapping the woman’s hand.

“I apologize for the poor example yesterday,” he stated.
