Much of the Democrat’s impeachment case against President Trump relies on a direct quid pro quo with the Ukraine. Meaning, President Trump would have had to have told Ukraine that they were only getting U.S. aid money if they investigated Hunter Biden’s corrupt business dealings in the country. This story has now been directly contradicted by a top official in the Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vadym Prystaiko. In denying a quid pro quo ever happened, Prystaiko also casts doubt on the truthfulness of star witness, Ambassador Gordon Sondland.

The Ukrainian Minister has said to a Ukrainian new agency, “Ambassador Sondland did not tell us, and did not tell me exactly, about the relation between the [military] assistance and the investigations. You should ask him. I do not recall any conversation with me as with foreign minister. It was not we, the Ukrainian officials (who were told this).”

Prystaiko continued by saying, “I have never seen a direct link between investigations and security assistance. Yes, investigations were mentioned, you know, in a presidential conversation. But there was no clear connection between these events.” This directly contradicts what Sondland told congress in closed door hearings.

Sondland, who the Democrats are heavily counting on to prove the quid pro quo, has already created many doubts about the truthfulness of his testimony even before being called out by Prystaiko. In his original testimony, Sondland has said he did not remember a quid pro quo between Ukraine and President Trump.

However, in his second round of testimony, the Ambassador said his memory was recently “jogged” and now he does remember the illegal message. He said, “After that large meeting, I now recall speaking individually with [Ukrainian presidential advisor] Mr. Yermak, where I said resumption of U.S. aid would likely not occur until Ukraine provided the public anti-corruption statement that we had been discussing for weeks.” He added that he now believes this was an illegal quid pro quo and will testify to that.
