Tuesday evening, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went live on Instagram to tell her followers that climate change is keeping her up at night. The freshman lawmaker was making boxed macaroni and cheese while expressing her concerns about rising sea levels, diseases frozen that “could escape these melted glaciers” and get into our water, and mosquitos carrying diseases such as malaria flying further north.

She warned her followers that “we are kind of blowing past a lot of the markers that scientists thought would happen years from now” and how she is scared to think of the world when she is “40, 50, 60 years old.”

Did she forget “the world is going to end in 12 years”?!

The 29-year-old politician revealed that she’s been thinking about raising a family one day, but will have “one less child” because of her concern for the environment.

“Even now, you know when you put climate change on top of that, I know that I want to, you know ,perhaps have one less child than I thought I would maybe have if i can even have a child biologically I don’t know.” She continued, “I think having a mixed family is part of my personal planning. But it’s really hard, and I don’t think sometimes that older generations understand how much we’re taking this into account.”

When one of her followers asked her if she thought the new generation is too delicate, Ocasio-Cortez answered, “No! I don’t think they’re too delicate at all. I think they are badass. I think young people are more informed and dynamic than their predecessors. I think that they are more sensitive in a positive way in that they actually care about other people’s experiences and lives.”

Ocasio-Cortez continued, “They actually take time to read and understand our history. The history of the labor movement, history of civil rights, history of racial struggles, history of economics, history of the United States, history of colonialism. And they’re not afraid to have those conversations.”

She went on to say,“If anything, I think they’re profoundly courageous because they’re willing to puncture taboos and have conversations that frankly older generations sometimes struggle to have.”

“Not everyone. I don’t want to paint everybody with a broad brush.” But then she did exactly that in her next statements. “I think this new generation is very profound and very strong and very brave because they’re actually willing to go to the streets. How about that?”

“Like previous generations have just assumed that government’s got it. Let me tell you something. You are the government. Like, as a democracy, ‘We the People’ means you,” she said.

Here’s the video of AOC saying “We’re, like, the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.” However, she later claimed that she was just joking, but look how serious she seemed at the time.
