In an interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter, Dr. Allen Frances, professor emeritus of psychiatry at Duke University Medical College, and Yale School of Medicine Psychiatry professor Bandi X. Lee debated on President Trump’s mental state. Dr. Frances, author of “Twilight of American Sanity: A Psychiatrist Analyzes the Age of Trump,” compared our president to dangerous dictators by claiming, “Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were.”

It’s not suprising that the CNN anchor didn’t bother to interrupt Dr. Frances’ unconscionable statement. But what Dr. Frances was referring to was the potential effects of climate change. “It’s crazy for us to be destroying the climate our children will live in,” said Dr. Frances.

Stetler later tweeted, “I agree that I should have interrupted after that line. I wish I had heard him say it, but I was distracted by tech difficulties (that’s why the show open didn’t look the way it normally does, I had two computers at the table, etc). Not hearing the comment is my fault.”

Frances’ Twitter account is littered with Trump bashing posts.

In 2017, Dr. Frances wrote a letter to the New York Times stating, “He may be a world-class narcissist, but this doesn’t make him mentally ill, because he does not suffer from the distress and impairment required to diagnose mental disorder.”

Dr. Frances’ outrageous statement on CNN’s Reliable Sources was quickly used by the media who wrote headlines such as the Washington Examiner: “University psychiatrist: Trump ‘may be responsible for many more million deaths’ than Hitler, Stalin, and Mao.”
