Monday morning, President Trump spoke about the deadly shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, calling for a reform of mental health laws and stronger background checks. The president also condemned racism, bigotry, and white supremacy in our nation.

Moments after Trump’s speech, Hillary and Bill Clinton took to the internet to dismiss Trump’s response and push for the ban of assault weapons.

Hillary tweeted, “People suffer from mental illness in every other country on earth; people play video games in virtually every other country on earth, The difference is the guns.”

Former president Bill Clinton wrote, “How many more people have to die before we reinstate the assault weapons ban & the limit on high-capacity magazines & pass universal background checks? After they passed in 1994, there was a big drop in mass shooting deaths. When the ban expired, they rose again. We must act now.”

The Clintons weren’t the only ones to slam his remarks as insufficient. Cory Booker, D-N.J., tweeted, “The president is weak. And wrong. White supremacy is not a mental illness, and guns are a toll that white supremacists use to fulfill their hate.”

Joe Biden bashed Trump by tweeting, “Let’s be very clear. You use the office of the presidency to encourage and embolden white supremacy. You use words like “infestation” and “invasion” to talk about human beings. We won’t truly speak with one voice against hatred until your voice is no longer in the White House.”

Elizabeth Warren blamed the president for creating “plenty of space for hate.” Warren tweeted, “Donald Trump is enabling white supremacy—and Republicans are enabling him. And when Congress and the American people have tried to fight the gun violence epidemic, @SenateMajLdr has put the NRA first. If we want action, we need to take back the Senate and end the filibuster.”

In an interview with CNN, Robert “Beto” O’Rourke called Trump, “the most racist president since Andrew Johnson.”

Watch:

Former president Obama issued his long statment on social media, demanding that Americans “soundly reject language coming out of the mouths of any of our leaders that feeds a climate of fear and hatred and normalizes racist sentiments; leaders who demonize those who don’t look like us, or suggest that other people, including immigrants, threaten our way of life, or refer to other people as sub-human, or imply that America belongs to just one certain type of people.”

On Tuesday morning, President Trump fired back at Obama, by tweeting, “Did George Bush ever condemn President Obama after Sandy Hook. President Obama had 32 mass shootings during his reign. Not many people said Obama is out of Control. Mass shootings were happening before the President even thought about running for Pres.”
