President Donald Trump made history as the first sitting United States President to ever step foot in North Korea, meeting with Kim Jong-un. After the two men shook hands and posed for photographs, President Trump and Kim Jong-un walked 20 steps north to cross the North Korean territory, and then returned to the boundary.

Mr. Kim smiled and said through an interpreter, “Good to see you again. I never expected to meet you at this place.”

Trump told Kim, “I was proud to step over the line. It is a great day for the world.”

Mr. Kim replied, “I believe this is an expression of his willingness to eliminate all the unfortunate past and open a new future.”

After the press photos were taken, President Trump, Kim Jong-un, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in had an hour-long closed door meeting in the Freedom House on the South Korean side.

Trump later commented, “Everybody was so happy and many people I noticed from Korea were literally in tears, crying.”
