On Tuesday, Pennsylvania certified former vice-President Joe Biden as the winner of the state’s 2020 general elections.

In a report from the Associated Press, the state finally announced Biden as the winner- three weeks following the Nov. 3 elections. The news was confirmed by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf in a social media post. In his post, Wolf claimed that the Department of State had issued a “certificate of ascertainment” to Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris. This is in spite of President Donald Trump’s effort to file a lawsuit against its elected officials and demand a mandatory recount.

The state’s electors, which are composed of mostly Democrats, will convene on December 14. Democratic Party chair Nancy Patton Mills who is also one of the electors, confirmed that she will also take the lead for the Electoral College, which is scheduled next month. In a statement, Mills proudly proclaimed Pennsylvania as the state which made Biden’s win possible. In addition, Democratic Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar also celebrated Biden’s win in a news release. Boockvar took it as an opportunity to praise officials and poll workers, even touting them as the real heroes of Democracy. The Secretary of State also went on to thank the 67 counties who had worked together to provide the election results.

The former Vice-President’s certification in Pennsylvania had guaranteed him 20 electoral votes which gave him an added advantage to win the 270 electoral college votes. Overall, the Associated Press claimed that Biden won 306 electoral votes, while the President stood behind at 232. However, the margin of options for both Trump and Biden remained close. In fact, the Democratic candidate was able to earn 3.46 million votes while Trump was close by 3.38 million. In 2016, the President won in the state with 44,000 votes.

Biden’s certification came after U.S. District Court Judge Matthew Brann dismissed the lawsuit that was filed by the President’s legal campaign team on Saturday. The judge cited that the team failed to provide substantial evidence and that their claims are merely “speculative accusations.” He believed that he would “disenfranchise” seven million voters by granting Trump’s petition without providing any solutions to the contested results.

This further added to the growing frustrations among key Republican supporters. In fact, former Republican Gov. Chris Christie called the legal team a “national embarrassment.” Moreover, Biden’s team wasted no time in celebrating their win. In a statement, Biden campaign’s legal adviser Bob Bauer boasted that Trump failed to win Pennsylvania. He also predicted that Biden will be sworn in as the new United States President because “Trump’s lawsuits will continue to fail, as they have in over 30 cases since election day.”
