On Friday, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) asked why the Democrats were outraged over the death of Qasem Soleimani. Cruz was replying to a tweet by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) in which she called on Congress members to intervene and stop President Trump from engaging in war with Iran.

Cruz tweeted, “According the  Obama Department of Defense, Qasem Soleimani was a terrorist directly responsible for the murder of over 500 US service men [sic] & women. Why are congressional Dems outraged that he’s finally dead?”

Omar tweeted, “So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”

“We are outraged the president would assassinate a foreign official, possibly setting off another war without Congressional authorization and has zero plan to deal with the consequences. But of course you know that,” replied Omar. She also included a comment that Cuz made in the 2016 Republican primaries about Trump.

Cruz also defended President Trump in his response to Ben Rhodes, a former national security adviser under President Obama. “Perhaps it would have been a better idea to send him $1.7 billion in unmarked bills, in pallets on planes in the dead of night, so he could kill more Americans?” tweeted Cruz.
