A McDonald’s franchise in North Andover, Massachusetts, is in the hot seat for their choice of Halloween decoration stickers, which upset some customers who called it “disgusting” and “insensitive.”

Last week, a college student named Erick Pocock and his friends visited McDonald’s and noticed the display of Halloween stickers of jack-o-lanterns, bats, and a lifeless figure with a noose around his neck hanging from a tree.

Pocock told TODAY, “My friends and I were completely shocked that a large establishment like McDonald’s would put decorations like these up for all to see. It’s disgusting, insensitive and I can’t believe someone thought this was a good idea.”

Pocock took a video of the Halloween decoration, posted it to social media, and tagged McDonald’s account and asked, “Can you explain this?” The post went viral on Twitter with people debating whether or not the Halloween display was offensive.

One person commented, “You sensitive whiners are associating it with lynching. Halloween has always been about spooky, eerie things. We hang scarecrows from trees or porches because it’s spooky. That’s exactly what that drawing shows!”

The owner of the franchise, Chuck Lietz, publicly apologized for the decorations and announced that they were removed.

“We deeply regret that these decorations were on display, and as soon as we identified the inappropriate content, we immediately removed the decorations display,” Lietz stated. “Creating an environment that is welcoming and inclusive to all our guests and employees is critically important to us, and we apologize for any unintended offense they may have had on our community.”

What do you think about the decorations, are they offensive?
