As the very crowded Democratic Presidential candidate field starts to narrow, many of the pretenders are dropping out of the race. This morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio became the race’s latest casualty.

One of the only things the unpopular New York City Mayor has contributed during his campaign is very critical jabs at President Trump. Throughout his failed campaign, he has called the President a “bully” and has also taken to referring to him as, “Con Don”.

President Trump tweeted out a parting message to the “part time Mayor of New York City” today. The sarcastic tweet called De Blasio’s exit “really big political news”, and called his exit “shocking” due to his candidacy’s “tremendous room for growth”. He ended with the zinger, “NYC is devastated he is coming home!”

De Blasio, who was polling at less than 1% throughout his failed candidacy, said that he had “contributed all I can to this primary election and it’s clearly not my time.” This is not a surprise from a candidate with such low national numbers. The fact that he has incredibly low polling numbers in his current job also made this announcement seem inevitable from the start. Over 56% of New York City voters have an unfavorable opinion of their current mayor.
