CNN’s Chris Cuomo broke his silence yesterday after a video of him threatening a man went viral on social media. Cuomo became unhinged after an unidentified man referred to him as “Fredo.”

The CNN anchor lost control and repeatedly threatened the man saying, “I’ll f*king throw you down these stairs like a f*king punk… You’re gonna call me Fredo, take a f*king swing…I’ll f*king wreck your sh*t.”

Cuomo equated the N-word to a fictional character’s name from The Godfather. “They use it as an Italian aspersion. Any of you Italian? It’s an insult to your f*cking people. It’s like the N-word for us,” said Cuomo.

The CNN host’s obscenity-filled tirade was filmed on Shelter Island on Monday night.

Tuesday morning, Cuomo addressed his behavior on Twitter: “Appreciate all the support but - truth is I should be better than the guys baiting me. This happens all the time these days. Often in front of my family. But there is a lesson: no need to add to the ugliness; I should be better than what I oppose.”

Maybe the CNN anchor remembered that he had referred to himself as “Fredo” while being interviewed with Curtix Sliwa in January 2010 on Silwa’s AM970 radio show. Silwa and Cuomo were speaking about Cuomo’s brother, Andrew Cuomo, who was seeking nomination as governor of NewYork at the time.

On April 9, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews referred to Donald Trump, Jr as the “Fredo-Like son” in his interview with Rep. Joaquin Castro.

President Trump took a jab at Cuomo by posting this video clip from The Godfather to his Facebook page.

The president tweeted Cuomo’s meltdown video early Tuesday morning. Trump asked his Twitter followers if Cuomo should be given a red flag for his rant: “Would Chris Cuomo be given a Red Flag for his recent rant? Filthy language and a total loss of control. He shouldn’t be allowed to have any weapon. He’s nuts!”
