U.S. Army Specialist Glenn Oakley risked his life while getting children to safety during the mass shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday. Oakley heard gunfire while he was shopping at Foot Locker and immediately ran out of the store. Oakley, who has a license to carry, saw children alone in the mall and immediately stopped to get them out of harm’s way.

Oakley told a reporter,”I ran with them. I just tried to make my way to the parking lot. I got my bag in my hand. I’m trying to pick up as many as I can and run out. They’re so anxious,” Oakley said. “I made my way out and when I got, I guess one of the cops thought I was the shooter so I had to show them my license to carry.”

“I was putting the babies before myself because I just thought about if I had a child and if I wasn’t around my child, how I would want another man to react if they [saw] my child running around without me around,” he said.

The attack at the Walmart store left 21 people dead and 26 others injured.

One woman, who was with her two children inside the store when the shooting started, claims she saw 3 or 4 shooters dressed in black.

Another man reported seeing a masked man wearing all black as one of the shooters.

Although there were multiple reports of other gunmen, authorities stated there was only one lone wolf, 21- year-old white male Patrick Crusius. The alleged shooter was taken into custody unharmed, booked into the El Paso County Jail, and charged with capital murder.
