During a town hall in Hanvover, New Hampshire, Senator Elizabeth Warren told the crowd about her plans to “take weapons of war off our street.”

Last August, Warren introduced her proposal to combat gun violence by creating a federal licensing system for gun purchases, tripling taxes on firearm sales from 10 percent to 30 percent, and dramatically raising the tax on ammunition from 11 percent to 50 percent, which would make guns unaffordable for many Americans.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

In 2008, the Supreme court held in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, that the “Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.”
