In last week’s Democratic Debate, Democra’ic Presidential Candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke famously uttered the line, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47!” This comment has since enflamed the gun control debate and, as President Trump pointed out this morning, made any type of gun regulation deal much more difficult.

The sentiment that this kind of anti-2nd Amendment rhetoric is hurting any chances of even a modest gun control deal is shared by many. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) from Beto’s home state has called out O’Rourke for throwing “gasoline on this discussion, which I think had been proceeding along a pretty calm, rational and logical path.”

For his part, O’Rourke continued his attack on guns and gun owners, doubling down on his plans to take away U.S. citizen’s guns. He also threw yet another underhanded jab at President Trump in the process.

This is not sitting well with almost anyone, including high ranking members of his own party. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today said, “I don’t know of any Democrat who agrees with Beto O’Rourke, but that’s no excuse not to continue negotiations.”
