Contrary to accusations from left-wing media and staunch Democratic supporters, recent polls show that the majority of Americans believe that Communist China and not President Donald Trump were to blame for the outbreak.

On Wednesday, results from Harris Poll shows that 77% of the respondents believed that Communist China was to blame for the spread of the deadly virus. In fact, such belief extended even from both ends of the political spectrum. The percentage shows that Democrats with 67%, independents with 75%, and Republicans with 90% all shared the same sentiments. The surveys were made between April 3 to April 5, and covered 1,9993 adults in the US, and the first poll to be released about the coronavirus pandemic.

Based on the numbers, 72% of the respondents believed that the communist country had “inaccurately” reported the real numbers of those who have died, and were affected by the virus. In fact, even Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House, Dr. Deborah Birx, suggested that China may have underreported the real magnitude of the problem, which eventually led US medical experts to believe that it would be nothing close to a pandemic.

Due to problems with China’s transparency in relaying vital information, Americans believe that China should be held accountable for the damage that the virus had brought.

To point this out, the Harris Poll cites that 69% of Americans approve Trump’s decision to implement tougher trade policies against the communist country. In comparison, 71% believe that the US should cut down manufacturing in China. Finally, more than half (53%) of Americans believe that the communist regime ought to pay some form of compensation for the massive damage that the pandemic had brought.

Since the onset of the deadly health crisis, the opposition had launched an all-out smear campaign on the president, which was aimed to criticize his handling of the pandemic. However, last month, Foreign Policy slammed such accusations, after they released a scathing headline that read, “China Will Do Anything to Deflect Coronavirus Blame.”

According to the report, the communist country was already dead-set to deflect the blame for the government’s failure to resolve and mitigate the spread of the virus. “Since February, which reveals a two-pronged approach aimed at redirecting blame away from China and sowing confusion and discord among China’s detractors for the bungling of its initial coronavirus response, ” the article read.

The article said as early as February, Beijing had been using studies, and statements from the scientific body, to prove and support the belief that the virus did not originate in China. Then, on March 4 to 9, the report stated that the government had opened another social media account to deflect the blame on China. The Twitter account claimed that the origins of the virus were yet to be determined, and even condemned Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as racist, for using the term “Wuhan Virus.”

In a report from Breitbart News, the media outlet cites that the first detected case came from one of China’s provinces, Hubei. However, instead of immediately reporting the threat of the virus to the World Health Organization, the Chinese government waited until early December to announce that there was an outbreak.
