President Trump delivered his keynote speech at the 2020 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) at the Swiss ski resort in Davos.

The president spoke of the United States’ booming economy, the two recent historic trade deals – the U.S. trade deal with China, and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), – and the 7 million new jobs that have been created since 2017.

“The unemployment rate is now less than 3.5 percent,” said Trump. “And at 3.5 percent, that’s a number that is the lowest in more than 50 years.”

He noted the record low unemployment rates in African Americans, Hispanic- Americans, Asian Americans, women, and veterans.

“A nation’s highest duty is to its own citizens,” said Trump.”Honouring this truth is the only way to build faith and confidence in the market system.

“Only when governments put their own citizens first will people be fully invested in their national futures,” he added.

Trump received applause after announcing the U.S. will join the One Trillion Trees initiative launched at WEF to help offset carbon emissions.

“We’re committed to conserving the majesty of God’s creation and the natural beauty of our world,” said President Trump.

He added “The United States will continue to show strong leadership in restoring, growing, and better managing our trees and our forests.”

The president advised the audience, including Greta Thunberg, that optimism, hope, and action were important today, and not to be pessimistic, and to “reject the prophets of doom.”

“These alarmists always demand the same thing — absolute power to dominate, transform, and control every aspect of our lives,” said President Trump.

“We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy, wreck our country or eradicate or liberty,” promised Trump.

17-year-old Thunberg gave two speeches on Tuesday, and although she did not mention Trump’s name, she seemed to target him with her words.

The Swedish teen scolded world leaders for not taking actions to protect their children, and accused them of “cheating and fiddling” with numbers to get net-zero emissions and carbon neutrality.

“Unlike you, my generation will not give up without a fight. The facts are clear, but they are still too uncomfortable for you to address. You just leave it because you think it’s too depressing and people will give up. But people will not give up. You’re the ones who are giving up,” Thunberg said.

In her second speech, Thunberg stated, “Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fueling the flames by the hour. And we are telling you to act as if you loved your children above all else.”

She took a swipe at President Trump by saying, “Planting trees is good of course, but it is nowhere near enough of what is needed, and it cannot replace real mitigation and rewilding nature.”
