Jack Wilson, the hero who shot the gunman inside the Texas church, spoke to the press on Monday for the first time since the shooting. Wilson is a volunteer security guard at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas.

Wilson took down the gunman Keith Thomas Kinnunen with a single shot to the head on Sunday morning, after Kinnunen opened fire inside the church. Kinnunen was able to shot and fatally wound 67-year-old Richard White and 64-year-old Anton Wallace.

71-year-old Wilson, a former Texas deputy sheriff, told the press he does not consider himself a hero.

“You train, but you hope you never have to go to that extreme,” Wilson explained to reporters on Monday. “But if you do, your training will kick in, and that was evident yesterday.”

‘I don’t feel like I killed a human, I killed an evil and that’s how I’m coping with the situation,” said Wilson.

Wilson wrote on his Facebook page: “I just want to thank all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today. The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church. I’m thankful to GOD that I have been blessed with the ability and desire to serve him in the role of head of security at the church. I am very sad in the loss of two dear friends and brothers in CHRIST, but evil does exist in this world and I and other members are not going to allow evil to succeed. Please pray for all the members and their families in this time. Thank you for your prayers and understanding.”

Wilson, a self described Conservative Republican and a Trump supporter, is currently running for County Commissioner of Hood County, Texas, with the slogan ““Make sure your vote is on target.”
