While every individual is subjected to New York City’s strict quarantine rules, Democrat NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo was ready to make an exception; only this time, the special treatment is only exclusive for Hollywood celebrities.

Cuomo allowed Hollywood celebrities to bypass the state’s 14-day quarantine to ensure that they could make it in time to perform their MTV Video Music Awards on August 30. The event, also known as the VMA’s is one of the music industry’s biggest nights. In a report from The New York Post, Cuomo’s spokesperson claimed that visiting pop stars can now participate in the event; however, they will only be allowed to interact with cast and crew, as well as ensure that they are wearing face masks.

They will also be in quarantine if they are not performing on the show. Cuomo’s spokesperson added that the Governor had placed “rigorous safety protocols including testing and screening and compliance checks by a special compliance officer.”

Supposedly, the VMAs original location was at Barclays Arena; however, the venue was dropped due to increasing COVID-19 concerns. It will also be marked as the first major award show following the coronavirus outbreak, and would also feature stars such as Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, the Black Eyed Peas, and even the controversial rapper and Presidential candidates, Kanye West.

In fact, West had a great time using his coronavirus exemption as a way to bend the rules. The controversial presidential candidate flew from New Jersey to Manhattan airport. After his flight, West went into an art gallery in Chelsea, and then went on to catch another flight.

According to the state’’s quarantine rules, travelers from 34 states have to strictly undergo a 14-day quarantine. These include people coming from Alaska, Delaware, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Those that are caught violating the quarantine protocol would have to face a fine of $10,00 or spend 15 days in jail. Overall, 415,000 travelers had voluntarily agreed to undergo the 14-day quarantine since it was imposed on June 25.

Currently, New York City has the second-highest number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. following the state of New Jersey. To capitalize on his fame during the early days of the outbreak, Cumo published a book entitled “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic,” and will be released this October.

However, Cuomo’s leadership is far from the squeaky clean image that he would often show in public. In fact, this is not the first time that he had played favorites, especially with the infamous nursing home scandal. According to reports from the Guardian, Cuomo allowed COVID-19 positive patients to stay in nursing homes, thus exposing seniors from deadly diseases.
