After nearly two months of political unrest, Seattle’s Chief of Police, Carmen Best, finally had enough when a mob of rioters targeted her home and scared the entire neighborhood.

On Monday, the Seattle Police Chief demanded that the City Council should take a step up to bring an end to the “mob rule.” In a letter that was addressed to City Council President Lorena González and Public Safety Chair Lisa Herbold, Best recounted the incident which took place on Sunday night. She claimed that her residence in Snohomish County was targeted by what she described and a mob of “aggressive protestors,” which has scared her neighbors.

Fortunately, the group was unsuccessful in trespassing her home or engaging in what she described as “illegal behavior.” She also gave an update that a local sheriff had monitored the situation. Best continued, “I urge both of you and the entire council to stand up for what is right.” She also reasoned out that the protesters’ behaviors were “out of line” to what she considers “every democratic principle that guides the nation.” Best demanded, “elected officials like you must forcefully call for the end of these tactics.”

Best also acknowledged the collective grief which had resulted from the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin. However, Best claimed that the “righteous cause” of bringing justice to Floyd’s death should not be lost in the confusion of violence and intimidation with which most protestors have engaged.

Previously, Democrat and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan had sided with the protesters as they established the autonomous region called CHAZ (Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone). She even romanticized the idea of protesters looting and camping in the entire neighborhood as a “summer love.” Unfortunately, Durkan’s view was short-lived after she had also become a target of violence when protesters targeted her home.

Durkan wasted no time to use the attack to her advantage. In fact, she even pinned the blame to a far-left City Council member, Kshama Sawant. In a statement, her office claimed that Durkan and her family are under a state program to keep them safe from the death threats which she had received.

In addition, the Mayor also lashed out at the City Council member by claiming that instead of moving to create change, Sawant chose to do a political stunt without any regard for the Mayor or the safety of her own family. Durkan also issued an investigation against the council member.

Across the nation, several police departments are seeing a sudden surge in crimes nearly two months after the nationwide protests took place.

For example, in Portland, the dismantling of their police gun and violence unit resulted in the highest recorded homicides in more than 31 years. After protesters and left-wing politicians demanded to defund the police, the city saw 15 homicides for the month of July, the highest recorded cases in more than three decades.
